Maitefa Angaza and her family have celebrated Kwanzaa for over 30 years and she has written on the subject for various publications. She is the managing editor of African Voices, a Black literary and visual arts quarterly magazine that also co-founded the Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival and Lecture Series. She works also as an independent features writer, editor, arts reviewer and public relations writer. Her book, "Kwanzaa: From Holiday to Every Day" will be published in October 2007 by Dafina Books, a division of Kensington Publishing Corp. Maitefa served as the previous executive editor of the award-winning and now defunct weekly newspaper, The City Sun and as an editor for The Daily Challenge. Her interviews and investigative pieces were published regularly in those papers and her articles and reviews have appeared in Essence, Black Issues Book Review, The Network Journal, The Amsterdam News, Our Time Press, and other publications. She lives with her family in Brooklyn, New York, where she was born and raised.
